Dr Makhubela commented on ENCA, 12 May, 2023, regarding statements made by the US Ambassador to South Africa. The ambassador accused South Africa of not being ‘truly non-aligned’, while also insinuating that the country sold weapons to the Russian Federation.
Dr Makhubela addresses this issue and raises concerns about extraterritorial behaviour by the USA, and that the unaddressed issue, that will be come more prominent in coming months, is the country’s main naval base in Simon’s Town. While the US ambassador may have apologised, it is evident that geopolitical pressure on South Africa to choose a side will continue.
