SABC interview with Dr Makhubela on US drone strike killing Al-Shabaab co-founder

The Somali conflict, one of Africa’s longest running, and most complex conflicts, erupted in 1990/91 at the moment of the collapse of the Somali state. In this SABC interview (3 October, 2022) Dr Makhubela sheds light on the implications of this drone strike, and proposes that the global security strategy in Somalia requires significant re-thinking. Since its appearance, Al-Shabaab has only grown in strength, with indications of it being increasingly active in the region in Kenya, Uganda, Cabo del Gado, and Seychelles.
